The purpose of the Honors Audition is to select students to represent CFMTA in the Honors Recital at the District One-Day Conference.  Each local association may select, through audition, up to 5 entries for the Recital.

All teachers who have a student chosen as a winner MUST pay the registration fee for the Conference, even if they are unable to attend.

The Honors Auditions are open to students of all CFMTA members in good standing.

(Teachers who are not members of CFMTA may contact the chairperson for information on entering students in this event.)

Each teacher may enter as many students as he/she desires.
  • Each Honors Recital participant must be chosen through competitive auditions using the official District V Honors Audition Judge's Evaluation Form, with a qualified judge making the selection.
  • Performance time is not to exceed 6 minutes per student.  In the case of advanced repertoire, at the judge's discretion, the time may be extended SLIGHTLY.
  • All solo performances must be from memory.  Ensemble performers may use the score.  Concertos are not permitted in Honors Auditions.
  • Students may audition with one or two pieces.  If the student auditions with two pieces and is chosen to perform on the recital, the judge will choose which piece (or pieces) will be performed.
  • No simplified editions, arrangements, or transcriptions (unless considered part of the standard repertoire and previously approved by the Recital Advisory Council*) may be used.  *RAC is composed of the presidents of each local organization and the district V president.
  • Students may not perform the same work in subsequent years.
